I’m Joe Meawasige, an Indigenous photographer and visual creative based in Oshawa, Ontario and the GTA.

My background is in photography, advertising and graphic design, and my work has taken me through everything from portrait and event photography to high-volume commercial product photography, branding and editorial design.

Photography has become the biggest part of my career, but I’ve always been interested in visual communication as a whole—how lighting, composition, typography, colour and design can shape the way something is seen and understood.

I spent five years working as a Product Photographer at SoftMoc, producing photography for e-commerce, advertising and marketing while working within a fast-paced studio environment. Alongside that, I’ve continued developing my own photography and design work, including portraits, events, branding and community photography workshops.

My approach tends to focus on people, atmosphere and strong visual storytelling. Whether I’m photographing a person, documenting an event, styling a product or developing a design, I want the final work to feel considered and purposeful without losing its personality.
